Just posing this question to see if anyone has any ideas. We did give the world Portishead, Massive Attack and erm, Reef! I've been hitting gigs all around the country in the last year as I try to start up a label, and while the label idea has now fallen down (don't have the money!), I'm amazed at the lack of attention in the Bristol area. Maybe it's due to the lack of live music goers in Bristol or something. You go to Liverpool or Nottingham and gigs are sold out for local bands. the top bands in Bristol seem to be Cuban Heels (great in my opinion if you like pop rock), Fortune Drive (great little band, although not out of this world), Mosiamo (they won Glastonbury Unsigned and still people won't take notice!) and Tyro Cartel (just great songwriting and rock in one). Does anyone have any answers - seems such a shame! Thank god Artic Monkeys have shown record execs that there is hope for the meagre guitar band yet! keep supporting music everyone - otherwise it's going to die on it's feet and it'll be Brittany all the way, Percy. |

Hand on heart I would rather have Gay Dogs at number one than Artic McFly anyday. are a band I have been plugging on my blog for a while - very Throwing Muses meets The Delgado's-ish. Even if you do not like their music the website is stunning! Maybe some bands are happy at having a large local prescence at the expense of wider UK coverage. Why not? Especially if you don't want to make a living from it. However The Gay Dogs have played London a couple of times now and Santa Dog have also had a couple of dates down here. What band are you in by the way? |
