Watched Franz Ferdinand live from Glasgow on mtv2 the other night and to me they were awesome, I can see them being around for a while as a reasonable sized band. Looking at the rest of the current crop of 'new' or newly hyped bands can't see a great number being here for the longterm. I think Kasabian and Bloc Party will keep their momentum up, keeping fanbases in the manner Oasis and Suede did after their initial successes. Babyshambles are an obvious short-term act and I don't think Kaiser Chiefs, Maximo Park, Editors will still be as big in a few years time. Rakes, Hard-Fi and Futureheads I don't know about either. The Tears wont be around too long as I think they thought they would have taken off more than they have. Mew and Arctic Monkeys are probable long terms to me too once they get a few more releases under their belts. The kids will get bored with the Libertines off-shoots sooner rather than later meaning an end to The Others, The Paddingtons and their like. Snow Patrol, Keane and Embrace will still keep their V crowd but new acts like Kubb and Morning Runner will tap into their fanbase. |

[quote="jannerboy"] I think the bands that will hang around are the ones that are carving their own niche, and not pandering to whatever this week's zeitgeist is quote] i couldn't agree with this more. and those fucking fringes are usually a tell tale sign of what's inside the tin. things have got too soft. which is crazy given the state of the world. i mean, i'm not generally a fan of music that's overtly political, but fucking hell, what's wrong with everyone? "lets pretend it's the early 80's and maybe no one'll notice". |
