A double-disc compilation album featuring an array of bands championed by the late John Peel will hit stores on the Monday (October 17th) following John Peel Day (Thursday October 13th). Released through Warner Strategic Marketing, the album features the likes of the Super Furry Animals and Blur. A portion of profits will go to charities - the Salvation Army, East Anglia's Children's Hospices and the Kariandusi School Trust. Full track listing below. No Birthday Party? Surely they can drop Country Joe and the Fish and include Hamlet Pow Pow Pow instead? Agree with comments about lack of black/death-thrash music. A ten-minute hard-core dub track would liven things up. Apparently, though, the track list comes from Peel's own collection of fave records and has been carefully vetted by wife and kids (not that THAT is any garuntee of quality - imagine if your partner was asked to list your all-time favourite tunes - makes you shudder, doesn't it?). Seems to me the collection is really aimed at people who liked the idea of John Peel but never much got round to listening to his show (unless you count his Radio 4 broadcasts). |
