What is happening to John Kennedy at XFM? At one point I thought he was the best candidate for the new Peel, given his championing of new music and his willingness not to play it safe on one of the safest stations around.
In the last two nights he’s played the whole of the new albums by Oasis and Coldplay and interviewed members of the band about each track. He’s topped and tailed the playback with a dull collection of records, most of which sound like generic indie pop. It was only by chance he wandered into Rough Trade and came out with singles by Havana 3AM and Tigs, both of which we reviewed and recommended two months before JK played them. Come on man, you’re slipping! We can get any amount of old shite by listening to everyone from Christian O’Connell (the COC) to Lauren Laverne but you’re meant to have your finger on the pulse. Get said finger out of record company bumhole and play us some of the music we need!
(I blame that drunken abuse from BJ at the XFM Exposure night for scaring JK away from good music…)
