If it's original material and the songs are recorded you can send yourself a CD in the post and keep it unopened. I believe that's the simplest way of proving ownership of a song. I'm sure there's other ways which require more paper work, publishing deals etc. If you're serious about management a good book to get is Hope this helps. |

in my experience (i've probably bought more than 300 jiffy bags in the past year) there's not much to worry about. just do some google etc searches to check there isn't a band with the same name. what is the band? |

They are called Hot Silk Pockets, based out of Reading, 5 members, 4m1f, Hard to categorise but a more tuneful yeah yeah yeahs on one and they are covering Warm Jets - Eno I believe. Going to start sending out the cd's this weekend I think and have got a little interet from venues local to me. |

On songs there are 2 copyrights. One is for the song writers - which is either owned by the song writers themselves (or if they have signed a deal) a publishing company. The other copyright is for the recorded work which is owned by whoever paid for the studio. |
