I was thinking about The Bureau album which remained unreleased in England for over 24 years and came up with a few more albums which are still hidden away in the vaults.
1. The Blue Ox Babes - "Apples & Oranges". This band was formed by ex-Dexys guitarist Kevin Archer when the first Dexys line up split up. Kevin Archer started using fiddles in the bands sound. But before they could release a record Kevin Rowland nicked their fiddle player for the new Dexys Midnight Runners line up. When Dexys released "Come On Eileen" no label would sign the Blue Ox Babes as they were dismissed as trying to rip off Dexys. It wasn't until 1988 that the band finally signed a deal with Go-Discs. The Blue Ox Babes went onto release 3 great singles but for some reason their album was never officially released. Although a few promo tapes of the album did sneak out.
2. The Stairs Liverpool band fronted by Edgar Summertyme. This band were heavily influenced by 60s garage. While their live shows were great I was always a little let down by their records especially their one and only album "Mexican RnB" which came out on Go-Discs. However I got my hands on a copy of their unreleased second album and it is far better than their debut. It sounds very Stax influenced in places. I think the band split up just after they recorded it and that's why it was never released. 1 track from the album has since been released on a Liverpool scene compilation and there was talk of the album finally seeing the light of day but that fell through. After The Stairs Edgar Summertyme took over from John Powers in The La's.
3. The La's Even the band said that their debut was crap. But they did record another album after Edgar Summertyme had joined the line up. They did play a few gigs with this line up but nothing from the recording sessions has ever been released.
