When I was a callow youth I sent out invitations to various bands to attend my 17th birthday party with my phone number on them. I got phoned up by Rick "The Fuck" Witter who said they were too busy to come but if I gave them more notice they could make it next year. But I'd gone off them by then.

I once handed in Vic Reeves bag to the bar staff in a small London pub thinking it was a bomb. The barman then asked Vic and Bob if it was theirs (they'd left it by the bar but were by now drinking by the window). It was and they looked at me like I was some sort of idiot for not realising it. Having gone straight from work to meet friends in a veggie restaurant in Primrose Hill, I nearly brained the woman sat on the table behind ours with the laptop I had over my shoulder. In good British stylee I muttered an apology and avoided all eye contact, resolutely looking forward throughout the meal. It was only when she hobbled off with her husband that I realised I'd nearly brained Heather Mills and sat 4 feet away form Paul McCartney for two hours without noticing (my friend was worse, being sat on the other side of the table he spent two hours facing Paul McCartney without noticing. My other half (who had worked it out) claims Macca was singing bits of songs throughout the meal, though I suspect this is a wind-up.

Melvyn Bragg once got quite shirty with me when I refused to tell him what to say in a debate (all the time I was thinking 1. "You know it's specifically not allowed by my job to do this" and 2. "You're Melvyn Bragg for fuck's sake, surely you must be able to think of something to say yourself?")

I fell in Sting's son's pond

I was drunk, I walked out onto the (unlit) patio and stepped straight into an ornamental sunken pond up to my thighs (I was wearing jeans)
