inspired by the 'hands like a shovel' comment on the charlie & camilla thread, i felt compelled to ask if any of you have any weird phobias?

because aside from the obvious and in my mind, utterly logical, fear of spiders that i have, i've also got a real thing (a bad, bad thing) about big hands. they honestly make me feel sick, and on one occassion, a man on a bus in brixton had hands so fucking big, i actually dry heaved!!

big hands are the work of fucking satan in my opinion.

as is wet wool.

anymore for anymore?

oh yes, and i can't stand anyone - myself included - touching my feet when they're wet. if they're dry, i can stomache it. if they're wet, it's retch-o-rama.

i think i may have had a trauma in childhood...

I have the perfectly normal fear of spiders.... but I used to have a friend who was scared of holes... like little holes in things like woodworm or sponges, which is a bit wierd! :?

Went to a Science event this week and was introduced to a bloke from some BBC programme about insects. This geek took great delight in showing me his wares: a couple of tarantulas, a Tupperware container full of cockroaches and some sort of worm that looked like 2 feet of black hosepipe. When he invited me to handle the merchandise and sample some edible crickets, I nearly boked and ran away.

And I’ve developed a Sting phobia – if I see his smug face on one of his pompous records, I have to say “Captain Beefheart” three times for psychedelic protection against the dark forces of elevator musak.

Oh, and if I’m eating a bacon sandwich, I have to eat the crusts first otherwise the world will end.

I had a mate who was affraid of silver foil, in any form. Be it a Kit Kat wrapper or a roast dinner he really was scared of it and couldn't eat say a sandwich if he knew it had been wrapped in the stuff.
Saw him chased round a pub kitchen by somebody with a sheet of bacofoil for a laugh, and he was hysterical. Sounds funny I know, but this guy was a strip club bouncer and the most criminally psychotic maniac that I have ever known - he put the guy who chased him in hospital for a fortnight for doing it!

Funnily enough, nobody messes with him and the foil anymore!

Caterpillars and anything grub-like but mostly caterpillars. I've run into the road without looking before now because there's been a caterpillar on the pavement. My fear is as extreme as Banana's mate's tin-foil phobia. If you have a phobia about something but you can catch it in a glass and throw it out then that's not a phobia in my opinion :)

I can't walk down stairs without holding on or at least being next to the handrail. If someone is coming up the stairs and I have to let go or move away from the handrail my legs freeze and I can't move and there's a pile-up of people behind me until I can touch it again. I don't like heights either, I can't go more than 3 steps up a ladder and at a theme park with my son they had to stop the ride to let me off

I used to have a phobia about being seen eating, particularly in the street. My sister still has the same problem - I don't think she's eaten anything outside of her own 4 walls for years.

I played with a tarantula not too long ago. Not a fully grown one, but with all the fur I don't really see them as very spidery. Now, if someone attempted to deposit a house spider in my sweaty palm, that would be a rather different story. Ewww!

I love big hands and caterpillars - i'm not sure if I have any phobias - I need to think about it...

Ah no, escalators are fine, you're never far from a handrail on an escalator :) (That's unless I have shopping in both hands and can't hold on of course and then it's pile-up time again while I transfer all my cumbersome baggages to the same hand.)

What about eating spiders whilst standing on an external escalator?

Moths. And I don't know why.

Has anyone seen that sketch on Big Train where Simon Pegg is the new boss in the office with the phobia of spoons? Fantastico.

Aaaah, Fast Train, got the dvd recently, just as funny as I remembered it, especially the wankig in the office, jockey firefighters and the rowing parents in the back of the car sketches

Wouldn't it be worse being stuck in a smallish elevator with a big funk band? Fat Larry's lot, doing 'Zoom' again and again, maybe?

I used to have recurring nightmares about those rope bridges you see in the jungle with planks of wood across them?
