Cheers mates, just got the new Joe Cocker album "Heart and Soul", and i must say that i am very impressed with his return... Eric Clapton, and Jeff Beck make appearences in his album, pretty much an album of covers....
Do you mates have a favorite album, that consists of cover songs? If so who and what song? Joe Cocker has an excellent version of "One" by U2...

Ruby Trax the album of number 1s covered by indie pop faves that NME put out around 92 was a bit special.

Learning to Speak English Vol. 1 by Die Toten Hosen is a cheeky covers album!

Also "Flesh & Nail (A Tribute To Nick Drake)" by The Rabbits Hat is a great covers album. I prefer their version of "Strange Meeting II" more than the original.

"Reds Strike The Blues" isn't too bad either.

You mean it's good in spite of Clapton's appearance, or is this supposed to sell it to us?

Baz, this has just got to be a piss take right? It's not funny or clever and if you can tell an album by it's cover I don't need to listen to it...and the name Petra always conjures up images of a daddy's girl to me.
In horsey accent: 'Daddy one has had a spiffing good idea for an album...

P.S - I loved Mike Flowers pop? version of 'Wonderwall' - I know it's a single and not an album by the way...but great stuff...

It's not a piss take, look on amazon. I've heard that there are no instruments on the album either. The Flying Pickets spring to mind

I love the way the word Zap instead of zip is strategically covering his crown jewels..and with a name like Devastatin' Dave you know he's a winner all the way. And you just know Joyce Drake is a goer too Baz
I'm laughing out loud - just read the small print 'The turntable slave'...

Joe Cocker?? I bet Johnny Cash's version of 'One' is even better (and possibly inspired Mr Cocker) almost all of his American albums count towards the inspired cover versions. As for others:

Nick Cave - Kicking Against the Pricks - many high points, but I've a sneaking preference for his "Something's gotten hold of my heart"

Killdozer - For Ladies Only - if only madonna had made as good a fist of American Pie.

Mark Eitzel's Music for Courage and Confidence is pretty fine set of covers not least the miserabalist messiah tackling "Move on Up"

Terry Edwards plays the songs of Jim and William Reid - priceless brass versions of Mary Chain songs

I'm your Fan - various artists covers of Leonard Cohen - pretty much fantastic all round, but John Cale's Hallelujah is just about the finest song ever.

Til things are birghter - the only album of covers of songs by Johnny CAsh that counts. Marc Almond's version of Man in Black is great.
