So what's the verdict...?

http://www.soundsxp.com/1445.shtml

Personally I'm disappointed to see the FF album finish top rather than the Features, Go! Team, Loves or Magnetic Fields but hey ho... never mind... still, the singles list was pretty spiffing.

I must have real minority tastes (you feckin sheep  ). Only a handful of my faves even made a dent! Mind you ii only picked five per list as I thought it was not too good a year and I completely forgot about the Angular comps - doh!

Seriously though the Franz Ferdinand album is not that good but thought it was a predictable result. Just been listening to the Features the past couple of days. It's good and would have made list if I heard it in time as would Radio Dept's single/album.

Not many contributed did they? Very disappointing chaps and chapesses.

The comps/reissue list is a bit poor. Didn't any of you lot hear Music Clubs "20 Mod Classics"? If not you should buy a copy as it's under a £5. Also Kent put out some great Soul comps like volume 4 of Dave Godin's "Deep Soul Treasures".

Also far too much Mozza for my liking.

Track listing
1. Getting Mighty Crowded - Betty Everett
2. Nothing Can Stop Me - Gene Chandler
3. I'll Keep On Holding On - The Marvelettes
4. All Or Nothing - The Small Faces
5. Biff Bang Pow - The Creation
6. Over Under Sideways Down - The Yardbirds
7. Dancing In The Street - Martha Reeves & The Vandellas
8. Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart - The Supremes
9. I Heard It Through The Grapevine - Gladys Knight & The Pips
10. Fortune Teller - Benny Spellman
11. Something Has Hit Me - The Action
12. Light My Fire - Erma Franklin
13. Big City - The Artwoods
14. I Dig Everything - David Bowie
15. Come Home Baby - Rod Stewart With PP Arnold
16. Am I The Same Girl - Barbara Acklin
17. Have More Time - Marvin Smith
18. The Who Who Song - Jackie Wilson
19. Yeh Yeh - Georgie Fame
20. She's About A Mover - Sir Douglas Quintet

Top comp Bazza but most of these 60s comps are now just shuffling the same tracks around. Much as I love The Who Who Song, Am I the Same Girl and Getting Mighty Crowded, do I need yet another comp with them on? And Dancing in the Street was slaughtered by Bowie and Jagger and I can't now bear to hear it. Having said that I'll no doubt buy it if I see it cheap as I can never resist them - I've got about 200 northern soul/motown/60s pop comps.

I picked my copy up from HMV for £4.99. I think you can get it even cheaper off Amazon market place.

It's true that a lot of these 60/Soul comps are using the same tracks. I think I've got about 10 CD's featuring "The Snake" by Al Wilson and Dobie Gray's "Out On The Floor".

6. Interpol - Antics
8. The Shins - Chutes Too Narrow
9. The Concretes - The Concretes
13. Devendra Banhart - Rejoicing in The Hands
16. Graham Coxon - Happiness in Magazines

All great albums, these. Ferdinand and The Libertines can fuck right off, though. Overhyped shit.

I'm surprised the albums at the top got there judging by what the reviewers have said on these pages but it kind of was acknowledged that Franz is by virtue of it being everyones 2nd or 3rd choice. Still doesn't explain how Gillian Anderson won the FHM woman of the year award in about 97 though.

I love Venus In Furs taste in music and barbed wit too by the way, can I vote for her as the only American I have liked their opinion this year?

I do like FF but I'm surprised the Libertines features in anyone's 'best of' list. Well, actually I'm not. They've been so overhyped I think people that championed them are too embarrassed to admit the new album is dog poo, they're not the 'band of a generation', and Pete Doherty is at best an averagely talented waste of space.

Didn't she say her boyfriend's English so I guess he's rubbed off on her.. erm I mean...

Anyway she'll have to share it with Bobodante, who's also a good (American) egg... although he's virtually Canadian he lives so near the border.

The only poll I've seen this year notable for not including R***rlight... excellent stuff.

Late mention for the re-issue banter... Vashti Bunyan- Just Another Diamond Day. Folktastic.

You're not the only one - only two of my albums scraped in (at 15 and 20) and3 live acts - apart from that my year was distinctly absent from the list

As you spent the entire year sat sidesaddle, eating refried beans and listening to cousin Jed on his banjo maybe it's no surprise. Come join us in the mainstream... 8)

Nope, Franz Ferdinand was my first album and first single choice because the album was far and away the best I've heard all year. They're an extremely exciting band, and it's inevitable that they're going to be talked and hyped-up (Mercury Prize has a lot to answer for on that count) - but I think it's justified, and I fully stand by my choice. They're fab.

He's not even average. I think Bazza called him "an even less talented Sid Vicious", and I'll agree with that statement.

Hee hee simon - you were jesting right? :? can Cavey say how amazed she is that the franz lads came out on top? I thought all the writers didn't like them? I need to go back and read posts - it's true what people say - i'm stupid.
I'm going to be unfashionable - Scissor Sisters all the way for me  with a pinch of the Kings of Leon - yes I read the album review  and me sees that at least one person is warming to the beauty of the Aha album - it grows on you like a beard...er unless you're a woman and then it grows on you like stubble rash....

Actually counting the results of the editors only the Loves album finished second only to the Go! Team LP with the FF effort nowhere. A great lost classic.

I was somewhat surprised and disappointed that the Nick Cave album was not even in the top twenty. And amused to see that the Shins album appeared in both this year's poll and erm last years... No doubt the same will happen with the Features album at the end of 2005. It's released in UK this month I believe but released in US months ago.

Ah you probably got better represented than I did... seriously did my vote get torn up or something?
