I haven't been to many London venues, but I agree with you about the 100 Club, what a shithole! My fave is probably The Forum. |

nah, the Water Rats is a good venue, except when they turn off the air conditioning and I feel like an overheating beagle in a Philip Morris lab. The Betsey Trotwood has charm but is too small. Getting bigger, the Mean Fiddler is alright if it's not too packed and the sightlines are OK. The sound at the Shepherd's Bush Empire is appalling. Brixton Academy is just a toilet. My London faves are the Barfly (sleazy charm), the Bush Hall (elegant charm) and the Paradise Bar (Sarf Lunnun), followed by the W Rats. Oh, and Caxton House is OK with the right simian soundmixer..... |

Bad: The bigguns without exception. The sound is always pish though little people always go on about the fact that they can see in the Academy and Empire because of the sloping floor. Bloody dwarves. Good: The littluns. Barfly, Arts Cafe (if it ever re-opens), Water Rats (proper beer though often poop), 100 Club (ditto), the Spitz, the Windmill, Paradise (New X), Dublin Castle. |

"Confirming that the Chapel would close as a venue, for both music and art, a spokesman for the Union Chapel Project told reporters: "It is with great regret that the directors of Union Chapel Project announce that UCP will be closing at the end of January 2005. UCP will therefore no longer be accepting bookings" Presumably all 3 parts will be shutting - there was another gig bit round the back, and they had live acts - albeit shite - on in the bar too, no? Shame about the Verge as well. Bit of a sh*thole but no worse than other similar venues - Bull and Gate, Dublin Castle etc... What is it now? Just a wine bar? It wasn't shut very long so they can't have donethatmuch.... |
