To me, The Cure haven't put out anything truly dodgy or gone directly to the toilet...

'Japanese Whispers', 'The Top' and 'Wild Mood Swings' were downers for me - though they've often recovered from these poor records with brilliant follow-ups, like 'Pornography', 'Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me' or the new one.
I thought, until this year, that we could have put REM up there as well, but I daresay Around the Sun is the musical white flag in a losing war with mediocrity...
I hope not... REM have never had a bad album since the pretentious drivel that was 'Out Of Time' (I'm alone here, I think) - 'Around The Sun' is absolutely appalling as an album, both musically and lyrically - but I'm hoping it's just a minor blip in their career. All the best artists release a truly terrible album at some point in their career, I expect them to do a Cure at some point and follow it up with something that beats even some of their previous efforts. Or maybe I'm just being too hopeful.

Travis. I really liked U16 Girls in particular and the rest of the first album was pretty good at the time. Second album - unforgivable dreary shite of which Driftwood is one of my most hated songs of all time.

Yeah, I forgot about them. Love their first two albums, hated the third and haven't bothered with them since.

there seems to be no end of washed up acts who seem intent to beat a dead horse into glue and just will NOT give up the ghost.

The Who. Should have called it quits after Keith died.
