Being an old get I've never been able to hack these PS games. My thumbs are for hooking through my trouser belt to do a little cockney jig not the huge paddle like flippers that you kids have. Therefore beyond arcades yonks ago (Pacman, Phoenix, etc) and PC games (Doom, Quake, Duke Nukem, Half-Life...) I've missed out. However last night a work colleague, who's knocking on 60, mentioned he plays Second Life online. This is a man who's frankly a bit boring in real life and who's invented another version of himself, probably equally boring, in cyber space. So who on this board is a top gamester, online, offline or still listening to the screech of their tape as they line up a Spectrum game?

Well can I just put here about Chaz because this is spellbinding stuff to me. He plays this x box 360 online and he wears this 'Top gun' type ear/mouth piece and he's talking to fackers around the world in an armchair. It's messing with my mind. I have never seen the like. It's almost scary. The main game they play is 'Gears of War.' I don't play any games. I used to be addicted to Tomb raider, now I play scrabble with myself.

I play the electronic version of risk now and again. I see Diplomacy is in electronic form so I may get that at some point!!!

Used to be a bit of a gaming diva, but really don't get the time much nowdays, hence still at PS2 level (much to the derision of my techie mates who seem to find time to play a plethora of XBox360's and PS3's).
Do play stuff like Champ Manager/Civilisation/Risk/Scrabble whilst on boring conferences, when not practical to play anything more exciting.
Do have a PSP which is an absolute life saver when doing big screen jobs in a field or arena where PC gaming isn't practical. Was a Godsend during the Horse of the Year show for 10 days last year and will deffo keep me sane during the British Open in a couple of weeks time. Not one of those saddo's who plays it on the tube tho (thats walkman time only), especially as everybody in the carrage looks at you like some idiot suffering from arrested development with the mental age of a 12 year old!

As a colleague of mine at work said "Second Life: for those without a first life."

is this a crude euphemism of some kind?

i love the PS1 Tombraider games, but my main gaming vice of the last 7 years or so has been the Fifa games. i play everyday against Bret and take great pride in destroying him.

and James Bond multi players are a long term fave as well. nothing like sitting down with a mate, chewing the fat, and then shooting each other's faces off with giant sentinels while swearing angrily at each other...

that's male bonding in the modern age.

Moi, crude? Never, José. It really means what it says. And that says a lot about me. I love words. *shrugs shoulders* I've got neither the wit or cunning to dip my feet in the pools of euphemism.

I'm still a PS2-er - Fifa 07, Resident Evil 4, GT4 and various others. But my interest has been waning over the last year or so. Don't play online, unless you count poker and the odd game of chess.

PS3 is too expensive and doesn't have enough games.

So you won’t be playing Manhunt 2 then? The BBFC has banned it saying:

"Manhunt 2 is distinguishable from recent high-end video games by its unremitting bleakness and callousness of tone in an overall game context which constantly encourages visceral killing with exceptionally little alleviation or distancing. There is sustained and cumulative casual sadism in the way in which these killings are committed, and encouraged, in the game…the fact of the game's unrelenting focus on stalking and brutal slaying and the sheer lack of alternative pleasures on offer to the gamer together with the different overall narrative context, contribute towards differentiating this submission from the original Manhunt game.”

Is that good? I don’t know as the last game I played was some plug-in for the TV to play Space Invaders.

I very rarely play computer games but when I do I'm usually sat at the computer all evening and all night playing it.... which is an incredible waste of time and i usually get annoyed with myself for wasting such an inordinate amount of time. That's why I only play them very rarely.

Yeah you need a decent run of time, which is why my playstation has gathered dust since I became a dad. Sleep is much more attractive.

i had a go on a Wii the other day.

it was absolutely brilliant! i can't remember the last time i laughed so much and to top it off i was quite stiff the next day from the exertion required.

i'd buy if i had decent tv to play it on which i don't so i won't

My Nephew has just got a WI and he loves it especially the tennis and the other sport games. Take a look out of the window and opposite is the Hackney marshes. Why he doesn't go for a kick about instead of the artificial thing on the Wi is beyond me!

Hey. I never cheat on my favorite Counter Strike game. This game, which became cult at the time, has now become a means of making money. Every year, competitions are held between cybersportsmen from around the world in which they can win huge sums of money. You can read more about this and all the relevant information about the world of e-sports on this site: https://egamersworld.com/
