Another place to see good bands is going. A shame. A real shame.

That is really disappointing news, such short notice too. Very sad for the staff there having to start the new year jobless; there's some very nice people work there.

Bad news indeed. Nice quirky venue that's handy for tubes. Guess it'll end up being a bistro or non live music night club.

Apparently the pub above has been bought by a chain (rumour has it, A Slug and Lettuce) and they don't want a venue sublet in the basement. Sucks that it's probably going to become a huge fucking store room for pub furniture.

Save the Buffalo Bar petition:

Nice, I've shared it on our Facebook page too.

Emailed my local MP, Emily Thornberry, whose constituency also includes the Buffalo Bar. Got a phone call from her office today saying she wanted to support the petition and is keen to talk to people about it and is contacting the local press.

There is a meeting with her arranged for 6:30 or 7:00pm this coming Friday in The Famous Cock for locals and BB regulars.

Lifted from Rory's FB page (he works at the buffalo bar, lives in islington and went to the meeting with the now infamous MP, Emily Thornberry)

Quote:
OK so. Emily Thornberry MP has promised us that she'll write to both the leaseholder and freeholder on parliamentary notepaper protesting the closure of the Buffalo Bar. She also says she'll table an early-day motion in the actual house of freaking commons supporting us.

This is a huge deal and may well be the 'hook' that attracts the sort of press outlets that wouldn't normally be interested in this sort of thing. If you have any contacts in any form of media please pitch it to them.

'Why is a tiny independent music venue's closure raising questions in the house?' is a story. The gradual death of places for entry-level bands to play is a story. The fact that we might never had heard of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Sex Pistols, Blur, Oasis or (insert favourite, actually good band) if it wasn't for spaces like the Buffalo Bar is a story.
We have a real chance to make a big noise about this, don't let it pass.

Despite no doubt having had a pretty rottern day, what with the press camped outside her home and all the media interest in her following her Twiiter gaff, glad to say Emily Thornberry turned up and gave us over an hour of her time. She was keen to get a handle on something that is clearly outside of her sphere of personal knowledge and had somebody copiously jotting down everything that was said by everyone there.

I'm clearly using Facebook too much as I wanted to click Like for the last two posts.

And today of course, yet another joined the list of soon to be gone venues: Madame JoJo's

There's a dedicated Buffalo Bar Scrapbook Facebook page where you can post pictures, memories, support etc and of course tick like buttons 'til the cows come home.

Good job they hid all the England flags before she rocked up.

Who's the herbert with the bucket? And why's he got a bucket?

Apologies if I'm missing the obvious.

He's one of the bar staff. He was setting up the bar and filling the ice buckets when he got called over to join the photo. There's no subtext to the bucket.

She didn't even panic when she found out that some of us are working class; even the ones from up north were allowed to sit round the table with her.

Disappointed if I'm honest. Was hoping there was some kind of elaborate symbolism at play.

Which one are you Milch?

You can't see much of me. I'm over to the left, behind the woman with the red coat.

Taken from the Islington Gazette. Same photo from a better angle.
