Neil's not here to ask the question so I'll do so: any views on the Mercury Music Prize shortlist? This is the list - and I've even given you the option to vote on your favourite: Anna Calvi - One Breath Bombay Bicycle Club - So Long, See You Tomorrow Damon Albarn - Everyday Robots East India Youth - Total Strife Forever FKA twigs - LP1 GoGo Penguin - v2.0 Jungle - Jungle Kate Tempest - Everybody Down Nick Mulvey - First Mind Polar Bear - In Each and Every One Royal Blood - Royal Blood Young Fathers - Dead My own view is that it feels like a particularly uninspired list, so the supplementary question is: what would you have added to the list? |

I was waiting for Neil ![]() I hate the Mercury - same list every year with different names including well established but slightly edgy (in their opinion) music acts, token slightly edgy woman (in their opinion) and token ethnic slightly edgy act (in their opinion) I have loved the Sleaford Mods and I have been liking the distance album by Coastguards Dan but I wouldn't want them to be nominated because I hate the Mercury and winning it tends to be the kiss of death. |

I really don't care. I haven't heard of most of the acts but there again why should I? It's not what I am exposed too music wise these days. I doubt I am missing anything. |

Awful list. I'd imagine either of the 'company' drone acts FKA Twigs or Royal Blood will win it. Agree with Cavey that Sleaford Mods should be nominated and win it, but then Sleaford Mods mean something and the Mercury means nothing now. |

Only know one of those records. Am with everyone else on Sleaford Mods. I'd have reviewed their Sheffield gig, but didn't have anything to add to the general verbiage. Not complicated, just ace. And they speak properly. |

VV, Wurzel and I had the pleasure of royal blood earlier this year supporting Interpol They were genuinely awful and I only lasted 3 songs. I see this week that their album has sold by the bucketload and topped the charts which leaves me mystified. As for the list it's the same old shit as every year and I couldn't care less about any of them |

All the albums I've listened to by British artists this year aren't nominated. I'd have thought Sleaford Mods would've been right up there with the judges but curiously, not. Maybe they didn't submit it. |

Totally agree that Sleaford Mods are best served now. I like them now. (It was only 18 months ago I had them on 2nd out of 4 at the Buffalo Bar - how times have changed! Shall go and see them when they headline the Electric ballroom early next year). |

I've heard of most of the bands but none of the albums. My alternative pick would probably be the debut album by Elephant. I think if you do a search on the main page there are some free MP3s and tracks to stream if you haven't heard them. Or check these, both quite different - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crZEforiKp0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFWglJ2PfPc |
