Monday:

This is probably the best compilation album I've ever bought. I must have posted most tracks in the classics thread at some point. Another various artists one, compiled by Sonic Boom.

2. You Don't Care, Bo Diddley
3. Sun Arise, Rolf Harris
4. Transparent Radiation, The Red Krayola
5. Angels & Demons, Sun-Ra
6. Denomination Blues, Washington Phillips
7. I'm so Glad You Don't Know What's on My Mind, Shewolf/Jesse Mae Hemphill
8. Needed Time, Lightnin'Hopkins
9. Please Stay, Cryin'Shames
10. Stay, Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs
11. She's Coming Home, The Wailers
12. I Can't Let Go, Evie Sands
13. Crawdaddy Simone, The Syndicats
14. Elevator Operator, The Rays
15. Perfidier, Xavier Cugat
16. It Was I, The Fantastic Baggies

That is a great set of tune's, but let's face it Kev, if Sonic Boom made a compilation of of his grandparents farting, you'd find a way of shoehorning it into one of these threads.

Well I do admit to a certain bias... but it's a great album! I've just backtracked and seen the previous posts about The rays. Bit of a coincidence.

Interesting how many acts from that comp Kev has previously bigged up elsewhere on this website. Beginning to think that every single one of Kev's posts is somehow related to Spacemen 3.

This is another awesome set of tunes. The Ramones demo is better than the finished version I reckon. Cover mount CDs aren't generally something I go for, in fact most of them don't even get unwrapped, but I didn't even buy the magazine with this. I found the CD in a charity shop. A bit of Nuggets crossover, but that's no bad thing.*

1 MC5 - Kick Out the Jams 2:58
2 The Electric Prunes - I Had Too Much to Dream (Last Night) 2:59
3 The Sonics - Psycho 2:38
4 New York Dolls - Personality Crisis 3:42
5 The Ready Men - Shortnin' Bread 2:42
6 The Bush - To Die Alone 1:56
7 Jonathan Richman & The Modern Lovers - She Cracked 2:54
8 The Express - Wastin' My Time 2:48
9 Gil Bateman - My Daddy Walked in Darkness 3:13
10 Love - Seven and Seven Is 2:24
11 Rocky and The Riddlers - Flash and Crash 2:47
12 She - Outta Reach 2:25
13 Ramones - I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend 3:01
14 The Kinks - Milk Cow Blues 3:39
15 Little John and the Monks - Black Winds 2:16
16 The Alarm Clocks - No Reason to Complain 2:13
17 Count Five - Psychotic Reaction 3:09
18 The Artesians - Trick Bag 3:13
19 Dean Carter - Jailhouse Rock 2:15
20 The Iguanas - Again and Again 2:19
21 Nazz - Open My Eyes 2:43
22 The Wailers - Dirty Robber 2:35
23 Paul Revere & The Raiders - Just Like Me 2:25
24 Bunker Hill - The Girl Can't Dance 1:55
25 Brave New World - Train Kept A Rollin' 3:16
26 The Amboy Dukes - Baby Please Don't Go 5:38
27 The Rats - Rat's Revenge Part 2 2:35
28 Mouse and The Traps - Sometimes You Can't Win 2:55

*No Spacemen 3 were used in the compilation of this album.

That is a corker of a CD. Mojo was never much of a read, but good for a cover CD. I've got a couple of others from that series - the Roots of Hip Hop and Blues Power, both of which are rather good for a dilettante like me. I must have missed one- not sure what that was.

I'm usually well too slow for these threads, but might dig out another cover CD for a future post. A comp that has both the Mission Impossible and Hawaii Five-O themes alongside the Buzzcocks, Fats Domino and Sparklehorse ain't to be sniffed at.

EDIT; actually I've remembered I've lauded that before http://www.soundsxp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=14929&p=81285&hilit=chemistry#p81285 and, yes, MLY was a bit of a blot on it.

Yeah it was difficult to get a post in on those first few days! So I waited until there was a lull, but I'll hang fire for a day or two now so you can post stuff. Mojo's the biggest selling music mag in the UK (or was in 2012, so I assume still is) but I've never really bothered with it.

Actually, I've got the Roots of Hip Hop CD as well and that is very good. I picked it up from the same charity shop around the same time! This will be the one in the collection that you're missing, although it doesn't have the full track listing here for some reason...

Which all leads to this old Vox CD which is a right old mixture - the first half is called Those Boogie Knights and Disco Fever, and the second Trash and Burn

:?

That CD makes no sense at all! That is a right old mixture, and how on earth it equates to a '70s Urban Experience I have no idea given the dates some of those tracks were released. When was 'The Girl Can't Help It?', '55? '56? And how is 'Time Of The Season' (also pre '70s) even remotely "urban"?

Indeed - worth it for this track alone though (as you say not v 70s):

btw first comment underneath is a corker "I normally hate most gospel and blues..." Blimey!

Absolute beast of a compilation, changed my life this one.

Got this as a teenager and just bought it because my usual 'Kerrang' wasn't in stock and Mojo had a free CD with it.

It was just stunningly good, I remember hearing the Bunker Hill song and just freaking out, likewise The Rats, New York Dolls, The Sonics, Love and She - it was the first time I ever heard all that stuff.

But the one that really blew me away and that I just got totally obsessed with was 'She Cracked' by The Modern Lovers. I would just listen to that song over and over and over again. The mixture of the drive and tightness of the music and the complete nonchalance of his delivery was just incredible. Perfect, perfect song.

What a great compilation!

Surprised so many people know it! I knew some of the stuff anyway (not sure how long ago I bought it but the CD is from 2003 so I'd have been mid-20s and liked my garage), but it introduced me to a few new bands.

Psycho by The Sonics is probably my favourite on there.

Dragnet For Jesus is a corker too!

What d'ya mean? There were several days in the first couple of weeks in this thread when nobody posted anything and several of the days there was a post, that post didn't appear 'til well into the afternoon.

What I meant by 'well too slow' that I only occasionally remember there was something I wanted to post, then forget what, then decide not to, and when the stars do finally combine someone has posted something for that day. So I then ignore the form and just lob in loads of links to compilations in the guise of discussion anyway.

Rulez is for fulez.

And what I was basically saying was that for the first few days there were albums posted before I got online that day. As for the last week or two - as I mentioned in another post, I haven't really been on the forum much of late!

Where's the "total agreement" button? Spot on, Horses.
