R.I.P. Wilbert Augustus Campbell (12 August 1931–19 May 2014), AKA Count Suckle.
Together with Duke Vin, Count Suckle probably did more to introduce Jamaican music to the British Isles than anybody. Vin & Suckle ran the first JA style sound systems in the UK, both starting circa 1956, having journeyed here in '52. In 1961 Suckle became the resident DJ at the Roaring Twenties club in Carnaby Street, where he began showcasing records sent to him privately by Prince Buster in Jamaica as well as R&B record labels in the US.
The documentary film Duke Vin, Count Suckle & the Birth of Ska in Britain is well worth seeking out.
