You heard the Boss' version?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eaZRSQfFo8Y

The last thing this song needs is a massive climax, especially Bruce's idea of one. Much too grandiose for it's own good and that video is fucking awful.
Only cover of Dream Baby Dream worth bothering with is this one (previously posted in this very thread):

Well, the Boss is the bombast master, he can't avoid it. Still, I bet Alan Vega didn't mind when his recent PRS statement dropped on his doormat.

Peaches did a rather good version of Johnny. I thought of posting it here a while back, but couldn't find a link.

That may well be it, but as it's age restricted you have to sign in to view it. As I'm not registered with Youtube, Google, Facebook etc, I can't view it to check.

Oh right. Well that probably is it. My blog is done through Blogger which is a Google platform, as is YouTube, so if you sign up to Blogger you automatically get a YouTube account for some reason.

It's not an actual video, just a picture. Mind you, the picture is of a dildo...

Good version though!

The first record I ever bought (the cover that is), but the original is probably my favourite. Almost seems like an unusual choice for a cover when you hear the first version. Great video though.

Where's this Alvin Stardust and Glitter Band fascination suddenly come from?! Wouldn't have had you down for either!

It's some of the music I grew up with. I've seen The Glitter Band twice before and excellent they were too. I also like the likes of The Sweet, Mud, Wizzard, Arrows etc as well as the more lauded hitmakers of the period (Sparks, Bowie, Roxy Music etc) and a few of the lesser known glam acts, like Milk 'n' Cookies or Hector. Hadn't listened to Alvin for many a year, apart from this particular Shane Fenton recording, which he made for the BBC and was never officially released. I have posted the song previously in the classics thread. The lead guitar on it makes it one of a small number of truly great British rock 'n' roll records.
As I said in my classics post yesterday, a DJ played My Coo Ca Choo at an event on Sunday and I was surprised how good it sounded. Stardust might not have the cred of Bowie or T.Rex, but he made some good pop 45s and there's nothing wrong with that. As you'd labelled Mr Stardust as naff in your classics post, I thought I'd post this little gem here to show you all that he wasn't all glam pop & Green Cross Code. Plus, I always like to put a bit of variety in these threads and it's a long time since we had any glam rock here; I've got a fine bongo instrumental lined up for my next classics post!

I don't think he's a naff as some (I'm specifically talking about his glam pop period), it was more a case that the name Alvin Stardust Or The Spiders from mars worked well. There are far worse glam acts I could have gone for. The idea, as they all were really, was cooked up in the pub after a few beers. The idea was to think of a band/artist who just about everyone likes, that we'd normally play on the show anyway, and that is famous enough for people to bother phoning in for. Bowie fitted the bill perfectly.

We did have a Bolan game early on too. The naff tracks wre songs that kept T Rex off the number one spot. I think they were mostly novelty records. Benny Hill was one, possibly Clive Dunn and The Osmonds were in there too. I love Wizzard actually, but we couldn't have made a game out of a band that most people will only know 3 songs by - one of which is a Christmas record.
