A few versions because it's an odd tale an I love the song. The Stones recorded it, then Jagger produced the Chris farlowe version which he preferred - so then the Stones released a cover of their own song (recorded in '66 and released in 1975 - it was the backing for Farlowe's version with Jagger singing). Thought I'd throw in the Ramones version too... there are plenty of others. Famous song, but a classic!

Another one with plenty of cover versions to choose from, but I'll stick to one for now.

The Jose Feliciano verson is hilarious... although I'm not sure it's supposed to be...

The Petula Clark version pre-dates the Little Peggy March version, although both were from the same year.
Pre-dating both is this French language version, also by Petula Clark, from 1962:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-hSjmQMZws#t=135
... and earlier still, this instrumental version by Franck Poucel from 1961:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1tp7qJIBRPA
I think this is most likely the original.

Ok shoddy researching. I really only actually wanted to post the Dee Dee Sharp and Palace versions... Don't even like Pet's version.

The Limeliters recorded it first but I couldn't find their version. Seeger wrote it anyway...
