Alfredo di Stefano possibly just before Fergie's Aberdeen beat them in the cup winner's cup final!

What a night that was. Me and a mate went straight down the pub afterwards to celebrate.

Not vintage - but how's this for a trick? Not photoshopped, just a weird angle.

You know there's been this debate about why should be able to play for what country and stuff? I think Jack Wilshire said you should have to be born here or something, whereas Jajaza...jajz... that young United player could qualify if he's lived here for five years (which is usual in sport - it's less in some and more in others - cricket requires 7 years).

Well there was a piece a read looking at British heroes who aren't from Britain at all.

A couple that stood out:

Knight of the realm Sir Bradley Wiggins - he's from Belgium.

And that photo at the top of archetypal English lion Terry Butcher... who's from Singapore.

I also get pissed of with Scottish women banging on about Rod Stewart and how great he is. None of them realise he was born in London.

I think in most instances it's merely a quirk of fate that sees the individual born in a foreign country to British parents who then return home. Rod Stewart just had a Scottish, Celtic-mad, dad. If he wants to consider himself Scottish and support Celtic, fair enough, but most of us will just mock him as a plastic sweaty. There's an intensely irritating character at work. He's an Everton fan born in, and from, Chester (so far, so fair enough) but his dad is Spanish and his wife Welsh. So naturally he calls Spain "we" for football and Wales "we" for rugby. Meanwhile, we naturally call him Fabricato...

Ha! Well that's just bloody cheating.

By the way, this article also went on to mention Mo Farah. He's been criticised (or just slagged off by bigots) for not being British. He was born in Somalia, but his Dad was born and bred - and worked - in London. So whether he'd ever lived in the UK or not, he could have done an Owen Hargreaves and represented England at football. So if anyone tells you he's not really British, well his credentials aren't really any different to Terry Butcher's!

Hargreaves by the way - both his parents were English. His dad played for Bolton! In fact his brothers were born in England and Wales respectively, before the family moved to Canada and he was born.

Intermission over.... back to the photos....

A little change from footballers listening to music, two musicians playing (well posing with a) football.

Selhurst Park, early 80s. Health and safety anyone?

I haven't looked at the classics thread yet, but I hope it's 'Back Home'!

Ha! I just read that line back before I pressed "submit" and noticed I'd typed "Bach Home". I'd love to hear Bach doing a classical version of 'Back Home', complete with the original vocals.

I read your post in the classics thread before reading this one; couldn't make head nor tail of it. Now I see!
