Not quite sure how this didn't make my top 30 songs of the year list last year. Massive oversight.

I saw U.S. Girls at The Old Blue Last about four years ago; sort of a bit DIY, Riot GRRRLish. Pretty good, but not brilliant. After hearing more recent records went to a show at The Lexington about a year ago; changed quite a lot. Still good, but not brilliant.
This new 45 has a sort of Exciters vibe to it and a video inspired by The Exciters too. Fine record and my favourite video of the year.

I'd have picked 'Doin' It Right', but that's a 'yay' from me, all the same.

Actually, 'Doin' it Right' is probably a bit old for this thread. Bah.

Can't argue with that choice - but it was 2007, so older than the 5 years specified. If I had to pick one from them overall, it would probably be 'Bottle Rocket'. The first album is still my favourite I think, although the last one gave it a run for its money!

Generationals - When They Fight, They Fight

Really should have been an actual hit single.
