Out goes Shaun O'Driscoll who was doing a half decent job. In comes Alex McLeish. Merry effing Xmas.

I genuinely thought that man would never manage again. At least I hoped he wouldn't...

Welcome to an endless procession of 4-5-1 at home and violent defending. Bet he'll snap Zigic up in the transfer window 'n' all. That'll be fun.

'Ere jim what are you making of Allardyce's tenure so far? I wasn't impressed at all when I went to the play-off final in May (if Matty Phillips had actually been able to shoot that day you'd still be in the Championship) but I've seen your lot a few times this season and I've been pretty impressed. Rugged and efficient but without resorting wholesale to the vicious hoofball that is Big Sam's trademark. Seems to be working, but I know Hammers fans tend to be somewhat beholden to their tradition of playing slick, elegant football, so I don't know what fans are making of the compromise so far...

Well I'm not best qualified to comment as I no longer go. We gave up our season tickets 3 seasons ago thus avoiding a relegation season, a Championship season and 2 seasons of Allardyce - result.
I did go to the playoff final and they were a bit better than us on the day, however the season aggreagate was 3 wins with a 10 - 2 scoreline, I don't think you can argue with that.
It was essential to get promoted and stay promoted because the club was in such financial trouble. The pornographers can't really be blamed as they have put their own money in when it really made no financial sense.

However my opinion, and to be fair that of most of my mates who still go, is that football is not just about winning, although that is important. Football is about belonging and community, its about an identity and tradition. If West Ham don't play football what are they? Just another middle ranking nobody club.
I don't expect other people to understand this, I find it difficult enough to express and haven't done so particularly well.
(I wonder if this attitude is mainly felt by those who go every week.)

They will seriously regret that. I imagine fans of Villa, Wigan, QPR and Reading must be very pleased by the news.

So today Forest could be promoted to the Jongleurs Premier League. *sigh*

Ah a bit late, but I see it has come to pass. I find it hard to care tbh. Weary resignation is my general approach to supporting Forest these days, appropriately enough.

Although we could tie up the loose ends of the thread and take on Nigel adkins I suppose. If he'd come. I'm not sure I would if I were him.

Looks like Billy Davies is coming back!

A man who has left every club he has ever had any association with under a poisonous cloud. Looks like with Forest, he's going to have to do it twice...

Still, as much as its impossible to like him you were going places under him last time. Glad he's not gone to Blackpool - Davies and Oyston is a relationship that no-one would enjoy seeing.

Genuinely pleased we lost yesterday. Sean O'Driscoll deserved that, and actually helps a bit in drawing a line under it.

Hoping Billy Davies can pick up where he left off. But might be tricky. You can count the players left from 18 months ago on the fingers of one hand.

Talking of O'Driscoll, interesting piece in Guardian yesterday about the plight of the two Bristol clubs. Both nestling in relegation dogfights but both getting fab new grounds within next couple of years. And talking of Brizzle, Olly Holloway did some neat dealing in the January window. Pots of cash for Palace for Zaha and a half season loan back (although he now thinks he's Billy Big Bollocks now he's a millionaire and the fans are turning on him). Plus two very good signings - Phillips, who's still a cracking finisher and works hard, albeit for 45 mins max these days, and Richards, an excellent footballing full back from Swansea.

Is that Jazz Richards? He's been on the fringes of the Swansea first team squad for a while - looks promising.

Yes. He was man of the match on his debut v Charlton. Looks very composed indeed. Good footballer and can tackle. Difficult to tell whether he'll look quite as brilliant against better quality in the PL but defo too good for Championship level.

And now the Pope.

Latest odds for new pontiff:

3/1 Alan Curbishly
5/1 Nigel Adkins
50/1 Glenn Hoddle
1000/1 Alex McLeish

The Vatican is denying having made an illegal approach to Arsene Wenger.
