I don't think anyone was at those early Libs gigs, SPT. It was the established line-up by the time we were there ie just before first single.

They are very scrawny, I'm not surprised they needed the layers.

As for the book, I knew no-one actually read the reviews on the main site... It's called Do It For Your Mum, written by their brother. Highly recommended. The trip to the Isles of Scilly gets a relatively generous four or five pages. A few bits of local colour, my fave being "We didn't get out to Bishop's Rock lighthouse either. The band did make an on-stage announcement for any volunteers with a boat to take us out the next day. And one young man did enthusiastically volunteer his services after the show. He talked very quickly while his eyes rolled independently in their orbits. Other locals vigorously advised us not to let him take us out to sea..."

Hang on. You were mending an outboard motor, did you say..?

And "I stood beside a couple of robust, bearded locals at the bar - senior citizens who looked like they'd spent a lifetime out on the waves or in the fields. 'Ooh, who are this lot then?' asked one, his far-west tones so burred they suggested a tangle of seed heads hooked deep inside a sheep's fleeces. His companion cast an eye over BSP and then have his considered response. 'Oh, they're from the charts they are.'"

If you read the rest of the book you'll realise they probably felt right at home with that sort of thing...

I object to to BSP portraying Scillonians as no-brained yokels.

Someone wrote 'mong' on my window yesterday. It took me ages to lick it off.

I thought it read like reportage.

As you wrote in the now disappeared portion of this thread, they're definitely in the yokel camp themselves.

just to persuade you a little further to stick the BSP book on your Xmas list, it's fairly typical that the account of meeting John McEnroe backstage at a Strokes gig totally fails to recount what he thought of BSP or indeed anything you might find in a typical rock memoir. Instead, in its entirety, it runs thus:

"Talk turned to premium-strength alcohol. McEnroe said he was a fan of the Danish alcohol-by-volume classic Carlsberg Special Brew. Noble spoke up for the immemorial potency of Gold Label barley wine. With a strength of 10.2%, Gold Label has the edge over Special Brew's 9%. But, as McEnroe countered, did the BSP men know that Special Brew was created to commemorate Churchill's 1950 visit to Denmark? The BSP pair had to bow to McEnroe's perspctive. A beer good enough for Supermac, tramps and Britain's great dipsomaniac war leader is worthy of anyone's respect."

I knew that fact! Might stick that on the Christmas list as suggested then.
