After Dave Stewart's failed attempt a couple of years ago to get the Marquee Club back on it's feet in what is now the Carling Academy Islington it has found another new home in Leicester Square. The first ten-day event, the breakthrough festival is, in aid of Oxfam, mostly free. I booked up the amplifier gig and the final night in case of a big name, 4 tickets for each for the grand total of £1.50 p&p. The only catch seems to be that you have to be in the venue by 9, plus you will prob be hounded to donate to make trade fair whilst you are in there. Worth a go, methinks. Acts: The Magic Numbers/The Tiny (September 27) FREE New Rhodes/Tom Vek/Fans Of Kate/Culture Industry (28) FREE Dirty Vegas (29) £8.50 Amplifier/Mau Maus/The Aeroplanes (30) FREE Time For Change Benefit featuring acoustic sets from David Poe/Robyn Hitchcock/Darren Hayman / Imogen Heap/Ed Harcourt (October 1) £10 Atr Brut/Kaito / Help She Can’t Swin (4) FREE The Hidden Cameras (5) FREE Special Guests/Do Me Bad Things/Towers Of London/Dead! Dead! Dead!/Cooper Temple Clause (DJ Set) (8) FREE search via the night on ticketweb.co.uk for purchases or go to www.plumpromotions.com for more info. |

I wonder if the Mau Maus are the same punk band I saw at Feltham football club in 1981? But it all sounds good - especially Culture Industry.... |
