So Phil Jones is joining Man Utd from Blackburn for 17m. I can't say I know much about him, it seems a very high price. He's played under 21 for England so is probably pretty decent. But 17m for a center back to sit on the bench while Vidic and Ferdinand start?

Not as odd as Liverpool paying 20m for Jordan Henderson. Where the hell are they getting all this money from?!

its the savings from not buying 20 young spanish players this year

I don't know a lot about Jones but the point is you have to get in early with these players now, I remember when Leeds payed us a fortune for Ferdinand and lots of people thought it was mad but those who watched him every week knew it wasnt. If Jones turns out to be half that good ....
The fact is that U nited need to rebuild their team with an eye on the future, young lads like this can become the stalwarts of the next generation playing for a decade and if they arent coming through your own academy (lets face it the beckham/neville/scoles etc generation was a blip) then you have to buy them.
Jones has played a bit in midfield too so you would imagine he can play a little as a centre half which if you ever want to catch Barcelona that has to be the way forward

I only saw Jones once last season, v City - he was playing out of position as a wing back. He was strangely effective, and their best player in an unbelievably one dimensional set-up (every opportunity send Samba forward for hoof up to him and hope someone scores in the ensuing tangle). Judging him on that performance he looks slightly faster and more comfortable on the ball than your average centre back. He's certainly more than an old school centre half. You now effectively probably have the most promising centre backs in the country, along with Smalling.

As for Liverpool. Christ knows. The arrival of Keegan seems to have unearthed a pot of gold previously hidden. I've seen Henderson 3 or 4 times and never noticed him. He was also booed off a few times by Sunderland fans at the end of last season when his form dipped. Not sure whether his form or rumours of him leaving were the cause though. Liverpool are certainly manouevring to be contenders next season though I'd have thought a decent winger would be a priority.

Presumably as Liverpool's cello player?

What's in the water in the editors' suite at Soundsxp towers?

"there are 2 restaurants in Manchester"

Is he mental? Sure, there must be nicer places in the world to live, but after that rant I don't think he'd be allowed back there anyway!

Every South American I've ever known (OK two of 'em) has constantly moaned about the weather here.

Tevez is a bellend. He moaned at United cuz he wasn't getting enough game time. Then he pulls of a classless move to City, gets the team built around him, gets made captain, and starts moaning about the weather and lack of movies...

He's spent how many years in England and still can't speak English. I love him to bits as a player, he's world class, but he's a bit odd - social misfit or aloof is probably putting it mildly.

Not sure where the 'classless' jibe comes from though. Why should he be loyal to United? He was clearly down the pecking order there and decided to join a club where he'd be number one on the team sheet AND still be challenging for honours (and is now a far better player too). Was Ferdinand classless when he joined United from Leeds (Leeds were title challengers at the time)? Andy Cole? Was Rooney classless when he joined them from Everton as a teenager (Everton a club he swore he'd support till death)? Did these players take pay cuts? Alan Smith? Did they show class?

Footy's about money, being pampered and winning things. Do all three and it's jackpot.

Not a jibe, or at least not at City. The way he conducted himself during the move was utterly classless. In turn, City's reaction to signing the lad was classless also, the "Welcome to Manchester" posters were cringeworthy.

I imagine it was mainly United fans who were following his quotes around the time more keenly than others, so perhaps it went unseen by some, but his comments toward Fergie were disrespectful, his antagonism after joining City was classless also.

He has no class, Paul. Within a week of the Summer break he's announcing on television that he has no intention of going back to the club that pays his wages!!! Throw Kia Joorabthingy into the mix and you've got a bad deal.

Maybe he's just not too bright? It brings to mind the Ian Rush quote after he returned to Liverpool from Juve. "The problem was, the place was full of foreigners, like."

First Tevez and then Mark Hughes make themselves look stupid and greedy, with Kia Joorabchian as the common factor.

btw, is he being interviewed by a rather unconvincing drag queen?
