I'd not slept for about 35 hours, I'd missed my last train home to Poole, was asked to leave Waterloo station, found myself sitting in a phone box outside Southampton central at 4.00 in the morning until a taxi driver dropped me off at a National Express waiting room down the road, free of charge as he was 'going that way anyway'.

That said, I might never see a better gig for the rest of my life. I met Cavey last night and she's lovely, really, and Polly and her band were on top form. Tracks from the recent 'Uh Huh Her' were shunned (she played five, if my memory serves me well, of the thirteen tracks) in favour of a more obscure collection - 'Meet Ze Monsta' and 'Down by The Water' from 'To Bring You My Love' and 'Taut' from Harvey and Parish's 'Dance Hall at Louse Point', three of my favourite of her songs, all get unexpected renditions and there were a fair few that I had never heard before in my life on any of her albums.

She didn't say much either, her band just belted out song after song for about ninety minutes. Twas well good.

A thousand apologies Enid  if I had known it was you I would have said hello :D

Nooooooooooooo Tim, you did not tell me the full extent of the nightmare that you endured  Cavey is going to be in a terrible state now - you never told me about the phone box....

You're lovely too Tim  Hey Sounds people one of your forum members spent a whole day with Cavey and there was not a club in sight -I can be quite civilised...

The gig was amazing - She sang her lovely heart out - she's electrifying and a woman of few words - the music speaks for her - it's in my top five gigs of all time :D Five clubs from Cavey.

Tim & Cavey - make sure you're both at BHFF (Enid's do in Brixton) next Friday - it's the only way I can think of that you can make it up to her/him/it.

I didn't see you, Enid, or anyone handing out flyers but if I did I would have said hello.

If I can't make it to BHFF this friday, I promise I'll go next month. Honest.

Sorry Cavey, I knew you'd worry if I mentioned it at the time. It was fine though - as I said I didn't end up there. That National Express was warm and had vegetable soup.

Just for the record, here was the set list of the gig. They played seven from the new one - I forgot they played 'It's You' and didn't recognise 'The Darker Days' for some reason.

Meet Ze Monsta
Big Exit
Who The Fuck
50ft Queenie
It's You
Good Fortune
The Whores Hustle and The Hustlers Whore
Down By The Water
Me Jane
A Perfect Day Elise
Victory
Shame
You Come Through
Taut
Harder (I'd never heard this one)
To Bring You My Love
---------------------
I Think I'm A Mother
Mr Badmouth
The Letter
Uh Huh Her (Hadn't heard this before one either)
---------------
The Darker Days of Me and Him
