Not just from me... whoever gets there first. Post a vid/stream of a great track and we'll listen to it.

One per day mind. So get up early if you want to add something.

I'm kicking off with this from Randy And The Rainbows (covered to greater success years later).

Nothing to your taste so far then? I'm just trying to keep them interesting rather than just stick up There Is A Light That Never Goes Out or Jumping Jack Flash or whatever.

Good choice Kev. Are you developing a little theme here of songs that went on to be covered?

For the past few days I've been putting up songs on facebook. The idea seems to have turned into 'songs that are better known for the cover than the orignal'. For example yesterday's tune was Louie Louie by Richard Berry.

The idea of this thread isn't for loads of songs to be posted. Every forum has those and peole don't bother listening. So keep this to 1 a day and get everyone to check it out. Not just songs I've picked... whoever gets there first. It has to stay as 1 song per day though.

Well, given that I am up and working on things at the moment, I am going to contribute the classic for Tuesday, 1st March.

I've never really listened to her stuff before. Not sure why, just one of those that has always passed me by. Very nice indeed.

If this is gonna be the standard of classic, I'd better set an alarm clock to get in first!

I hadn't put it on yet - have now. Another one of those bands I've heard bits by but not whole albums. It sounds like it was recorded on a dictophone. I like that.

On the subject of "songs you probably didn't know were originally recorded by someone else," try this ...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=emy5mA8Ixtc

Note: the Nerves only did a couple of singles but all their stuff is thoroughly ace and worth tracking down ...

Not at all. Would rate their 1st UK gig at The Mean Fiddler in Harlseden as one of the best I've ever been to . Loved them every subsequent time I saw them too, but kinda wished they'd kept their nerve and really had done a one minute set the 2nd time they played the Fiddler. Apparently they only came back on stage when the promoter refused to pay them. It was a great gig, but the thought of seeing a band who had travelled all the way from New York to London just to play one minute always amused me and would have been one of those real "I was there when..." gigs.
Surprised the video for Get Out doesn't seem to be on Youtube (the one that makes a fleeting appearance in Sonic Youth's Teenage Riot vid)
