Last year I wrote : In two years they’ll either be playing Wembley Arena ... or they’ll be down your local on a Wednesday night after the pensioner who plays piano like Les Dawson. Give me a Sh. Give me an ite.

This year : THE DARKNESS Sheffield Arena 04/12/2004 19:00 sold out
THE DARKNESS Cardiff Arena MON 06/12/2004 19:30 sold out
THE DARKNESS Birmingham NEC 07/12/2004 19:30 singles only
THE DARKNESS Birmingham NEC 08/12/2004 19:30 singles only
THE DARKNESS Wembley Arena 11/12/2004 19:30 singles only
THE DARKNESS Wembley Arena 12/12/2004 19:30 singles only

That it should come to this so soon. God, it's depressing. :( :(

Ah, Toady, don't be depressed, we both know it's only a matter of time until the bubble bursts - even the yanks in Kuwait thought they were over-rated shite, so if those dunces have sussed it surely it won't be long before the UK public do! :D

Are you Mark Beaumont in disguise? If so, ICM bottle of 'Just for Men' anti-ginger colouring. I love the Darkness for taking the piss and for winding up those cocks at the NME!

 I bought 'Permission to land' - they reminded me a bit of the Led Zep gang (look-wise) I was kind of hoping the looks might match the music - some of their songs on the album were quite good but it did not take long to realise that they are a one-trick pony and have now become like an embarrassing relative to me...  :? :( Ah well, they're harmless enough, bless them...

While I get little enough time to listen to the music I do like, so am not about to waste any on the Darkness, I'm with Johnny A. They're a joke pub band who got inexplicably successful, but you can't begrudge them a happy accident, they do no harm. Good luck to 'em I say.

Last year The Darkness played at the Middlesbrough Music Live festival. It was a free festival and the band were way down the bill.
This year however The Darkness are way too big to play Middlesbrough. But we do get to see The Darkest (Darkness tribute band) at the Town Hall in November.

At first they were a good laugh, just like Goldie Lookin Chain are now + the fact that NME put them on the cover without an interview four times in a month or something stupid, during last summer.
However, their success is too scary.

As we all know - as soon as anything makes a collosal amount of money it will be copied and copied until it is squeezed dry (and they need only barely disguise the sequals - I mean, McFly?!?). So, the problem isnt whether the darkness are just some irritating tossers, its more that they have unleashed the novelty gates and, in doing so, obscured the sort of music that we'd all was rather supported.
