First for a week...

Anyway, how poor was the Fiery Furnaces review? 1 out of 10. I've heard the album a couple of times and yes, I'll admit it's not immediate, clearly considering itself to be a concept album with one early track in particular almost unlistenable but persevere and there's some good stuff on there. It's not album of the year and I don't think it's as good as the debut but it's considerably better than 1 out of 10. Lazy journalism.

And am I alone in detecting a recent anti-US music stance...? Pages are being filled with Libs, Franz Ferdinand, Kasabian (who are shit!), Ordinary Boys (ditto), Razorlight... even 2 pages on the Rakes this week who are ok but not outstanding and Bloc Party are way short of the praise they are receiving. All that alone would be ok, after all these are indeed exciting times for the UK music industry but 1 out of 10 for the Furnaces and coverage of the Shins, Young Heart Attack, Mooney Suzuki and the Features ranges from minimal to non-existent. Sort it out!

Yeah it's the Reading issue ain't it? A cheap way to fill a lot of pages... their coverage is actually alright in my opinion (for a change...)

Plus, NME will never win with regards to their stance on national music matters, they never get the balance right with regards to satisfying both UK and US talent. Remember all the hoo-har around their supposed ignorance of the British music scene when they were too busy blowing off Casablancas 'n' co in NYC...?

The NME is too busy giving fellatio to The Libertines to pay attention to anyone else. I've never heard The Fiery Furnaces, but MOJO were a little less harsh with their review of the record in their September issue.
