Hello folks. Maybe some of you might want to come down and check out The Bêtes Noires @ The Barfly, Camden this month. We're a Belfast based alt/rock/whatever act, and this will be our debut gig on these shores, so we're looking forward to it immensely. We'll be playing alongside Rico, and Alice and the Enemies on Tuesday 21st September. You can check out MP3's on the site, and if you email us at info@betesnoires.com, with your address, we'll even send you out a sparkly new EP! It would the first package with a Belfast postmark you would be pleased to see! |

Just being a pedant, but wouldn't the plural for 'bete noire' just be 'betes noire' without the 's' at the end of 'noire'? Signalling a plural in French comes from adding it onto the noun, not the adjective, just like in English ![]() |

What's French for 'You are being pedantic' Tim? ![]() Ho ho - laughing at the 'Belfast postmark' malarky - I will do my best to be there - that's at the Barfly gig and not in Belfast... ![]() |

Fuck me, what a night out that would be! Who'd be stupid enough to miss that one then, eh? Only a fool that's who! ![]() |

The plural of bete noire is betes noires according to my girfriend, who did a degree in francaise. I must admit I am not particularly proficient myself, so I believed her. (I think she's right) That wasn't pedantry, just a helpful comment! Would be cool to see some of you guys down there, and as i said, if you want a FREE cd containing our 2 EPs, send your name & address to info@betesnoires.com Belfast is much nicer these days, but we are definitely looking forward to playing across the water for the change. No other reason for leaving the country. Honest. |

![]() P.S - I know that Belfast is a changing place. ![]() P.P.S - I was jesting about Tim being pedantic - he's just a fountain of knowledge and likes to share his wisdom with us. ![]() |

That's fine, your mother is a wise woman. We should have some CDs with us, I'll save one especially for you. Though Tim, I have to say the spelling is usually secondary to some of the "interesting" pronunciations we get, from "The Beets Noores" to "The Bettys Noowarez". Our fault for being pretentious francophiles. Or something. ![]() |

Pas de quoi, mademoiselle. ![]() Out of interest, for those who have been to the Camden Barfly before, what size is it? Is it small, or really small? We are only a 3-piece, so small stages are usually not a problem, just interested to know what it's like with a bit of a crowd there. Incidentally, we are playing the Barfly Liverpool the next night too, so if anyone is up that direction, 'twould be lovely to see ya, t'be sure! |

Jesus! The Polyphonic Spree?! Was there any room to get a crowd in? I do like intimate venues, but sounds like the only thing that would have distingushed the punters from the band were the robes! ![]() Cheers for the help, Bovine J. |
