Just read review on the hal/fionn regan show, The author could only be the sort of Bitter Miserable failed musician/journo that world can do without.

You get the Impression that everything he is saying about the the two acts is a clear reflection of his own personality.

The gig was stunning.. hal are an amazing band and all can I say about Fionn regan is the man is a genius.

I though it was a great review actually! Get over it you mugs, just cos you like twee bollocks doesn't mean everybody else has to
When will people understand this simple idea?

To be honest, if I'd have been at this gig then I'm sure I would have written something very similar. It's got to be something very special for this format of band or singer songwriter to excite the average reviewer, and just saying it was a great gig is not going to sway my opinion just cos you liked it.

Oh, and please don't write in capitals.....I mean, what point are you trying to prove? It makes it painful to read (yet alone without the content of the post being rubbish!).

I was at the gig too and the reviewer was bang on. It was SHIT! I knew Fionn Regan was going to be shit, anyway, I've seen him on numerous occasions as support acts and he is one of the worst "singer/songwriters" I've ever seen in my LIFE. He is boring... it sounds just like one long, boring dronnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Added to the fact that he looked like he couldn't be arsed being there - he'd either just woken up - which means the term 'bed-head' is brought to a COMPLETELY new level - or he's boring himself to death slowly but surely. My money's on the latter.

As for Hal, well, I went to the gig with an open mind, as I quite enjoyed the single. But they were disappointing live, so bland. How do you write down a shrug of the shoulders?

hal are good/ok but f.regan is a true talent. If elliott smith was a fan & bert jansch says he is one of the best young songwriters around, he's good enough for me.

I saw (and reviewed) HAL in May and they were tedious to say the least.

I honestly can't comment for HAL( worry bout the wind is a gud track)............ I usually hate(spit) one man and a guitar but, I have to say Fionn Regan is the real deal. His two e.ps are excellent didn't make the gig but he is normally excellent live.

I just don't see what the big deal about him is. I think he's extremely monotonous. It's not as if I'm basing my opinion on this gig alone, either - I've seen him three or four times before, supporting Turin Brakes and someone else - can't remember - and he gets worse every time.

I discovered HAL when I saw them live last year, and have been a huge fan ever since (evidence: I'm top poster on the HAL messaegboard), so I felt compelled to comment on the review. As someone whose ambition is to become a music journalist, I understand that a review is an opinion and not a fact, but I honestly think this one is unfair. Ever heard of constructive criticism? And on top of that, I interpreted the review as being quite insulting to the fans ('The wedding party are, it becomes apparent, probably related to recent Rough Trade signings, Hal. Another harbinger of doom, the rest of the audience all seem to know each other too; I feel like the guest no one can remember inviting.'). Of course, I'm biased because of being a HAL fan, and I am just some teenager whose opinions don't matter so ignore me if you want. Doesn't make a difference to my life.

and just because the reviewer doesn't like it doesn't mean they should give the impression that no-one else will.

Hmmm... slight contradiction there methinks. If a review is an opinion and the reviewer's opinion is that they're useless, why should he end the review by saying 'But they might be good, you never know, you might like them..' thereby discrediting everything he's just said and ruining the tone of his review?

Haven't seen the band live but the debut single was D-R-E-A-R-Y...

the review is perfect and true, the person refered to as hushing the crowd was the singers gal ,and a large enough section of the crowd were related to the band .Playing a gig for half an hour is just bloody rude and the wimps that cant be bothered bringing a decent lenght set to paying crowds do not deserve the adulation of teeny boppers like loony lady.
