The début release on Odd Box Records is now available to pre-order from the Odd Box Records website: The Kick Inside - Oh, Vanity! B/w It's Always The Quiet Ones The Kick Inside are a quartet from Bristol and they first came to my attention when they played a Lostmusic show back in July 2008. This single was originally going to be released on Lostmusic - but with this venture drawing to a close it was decided to make this release the first on my new label; Odd Box Records. This release is due in May 2009 and pre-orders will be up online in the next few days. The single ‘Oh, Vanity!’ comes backed with live favourite ‘It’s Always The Quiet Ones‘. This début release is going to be a limited edition 7″ single (300 Copies) that will come in beautiful home printed sleeves. You can find more details and pre-order and this is the bands . Exciting times. The band have a couple of live dates at the moment: 9 May 2009 - Big Pink Cake, The Mothers Ruin - Bristol 29 May 2009 - Goo Nite, The Wilmington Arms - London (w/Wake The President) Hoping the singles will be back from the pressing plant in time for the show at The Mothers Ruin on 9th May. |

New releases up for pre-order: I am delighted to announce that ODD003 is now available for pre-order. This CD release by Pinkshinyultrablast is an EP that is full to brimming with some wonderful shoegaze tinged rock’n'roll. Taking their cues from the original masters like My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse and Ride - this band from Saint-Petersburg in Russia are perfect exponenents of the now vibrant revival in all that fuzzes and buzzes. ‘Happy Songs For Happy Zombies‘ is an exhilarating listen, full of buzzin’ guitars and dreamy vocals, that are perfect for the hazy sunny days of summertime. The EP comes with 4 songs: blaster deerland honeybee ode to godzilla Hot on the heals of ODD003, comes, er ODD004. How logical. For this release we’ve been mining out some modern day nuggets. And in the The Humms we have found a band that know how to deliver a rawkus tune. ‘Are You Dead?‘ is an EP of scintillating garage rock n roll that takes it’s cues from bands like The Fuzztones, 60’s originals like The Litter and a whole host of others that like to mix their primitive guitars with killer melodies, zombies and a just a hint of rockabilly stomp. The full track list of the EP: Are You Dead? Do The Graverobber! LSD is Evil No One Wants To Be Alone On Valentines Day The band hail from Athens, Georgia in the USA. Both releases are available to pre-order now and they are limited to just 120 copies each. |

I am delighted to announce that Odd Box is launching it’s very own Net Label – called ODDNET. These releases will be free to download from and they will all be two song releases with artwork and MP3’s packaged into a handy zip file. The thinking behind this new Net Label is to be able to release more great music and showcase great up and coming bands. News on the first ‘release’ will be coming shortly and it’s safe to say I am very excited by this new venture! |

Some nice reviews incoming: The Kick Inside – Oh Vanity (ODD001) “Oh I love this. It’s chirpy guitar pop from the mid eighties, guitars picked at ten to the dozen, diving this way and that, twisting you in circles” – Russell’s Reviews “There’s something very early 80s Top of the Pops about it. All it needs is brass” – A Layer Of Chips “high quality guitar pop, – very bouncy and full of energy” – Eardrums Blog Golau Glau – Soft Silver Young (NET001) “Its weird, yet affecting and helps make a rather fine single” – Russell’s Reviews The Humms – Are You Dead? (ODD004) “Carries a flick knife and is destined for a rumble on the wrong side of the tracks” – Russell’s Reviews “Their lysergic graveyard take on rock’n’roll seems equally inspired by rockabilly, Big Star and Nuggets, and is one of those fascinatingly out of time melodic three minutes at a time bands you come across every so often” – Sweeping The Nation Pinkshinyultrablast – Happy Songs For Happy Zombies (ODD003) “an adrenaline rush of fuzzy guitars complete with the dream pop trademark ethereal vocals” – Indie-MP3 The Crack Babies – Smoking At Gas Stations (ODD002) “incredibly blown out shoegazy noise…landing them in the same area as fellow past limit pushers Skywave” – Built on a Weakspot “lo-fi, feedback driven scorching sound” – Indie-MP3 You can read the full reviews in the reviews section which can be found on the Odd Box Site – . |

The first free download release on ODDNET is now available to, er, download. It's a superb peice of off kilter pop music from Golau Glau - an anglo-welsh band that are something of a mystery. They only formed in June of this year. I was so beguiled by their first recordings that I asked them if they wanted to be the first free download release on ODDNET. I was chuffed to bits when they said yes. The band have their own page - where you can check out even more of their songs. The free download is available from the and it comes in a handy ZIP file. The download also comes with artwork. Their are two songs on the download: 01 Soft Silver Young 02 Heartland Half Seizure |

Golau Glau was played on the Bethan Elfyn show on Radio 1 last night! http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/bethanelfyn ... l?20090709 Not listened back to the show yet! But I believe she gave Odd Box a mention as well. Cracking Humms review - too - "A fantastic release, and if any song is going to top 'Are You Dead?' for Song Of The Year, it's going to have to be pretty special." |

I'll echo the appreciation for The Humms. Can't stop playing their myspace tunes at the moment!! Also like the sound of PinkShinyUltraBlast, another of his EP releases. My order has been well and truly placed. ![]() |

The new shop is now live and online. . You can order multiple items, stream a snippet from each release and also receive an ‘instant’ download of any 7″ single you order from the site within minutes of paying via Paypal. I think it’s ace. And it will hopefully make shopping for Odd Box releases easier and more satisfying. Along with the shop – the much delayed Lovelust EP has gone on pre-sale today. The ‘Spaced Out EP’ is a five song shoegaze meets drone rock classic – recalling Spacemen 3 at their best. This is a cracking little EP. It will be shipping on October 5th. Also up for presale are 50 copies of The Millipedes – ‘Shake Your Bones’ 7″ Box set LP. In foolhardy defiance of the increasing non-physical nature of musical product The Millipedes debut album Shake Your Bones is being released as a series of 3 7” EPs that when collected form a box set with amazing original artwork by Sheffield comic artist Oliver Allchin. The tracks that make up Shake Your Bones were partially produced by legendary Sheffield producer Alan Smyth (Pulp, The Arctic Monkeys, Reverend and the Makers) at his 2Fly studios in Sheffield. The box also comes with a CD of the LP with an exclusive bonus track. There will only be 300 of these numbered boxes available. This is up for presale at a price of £12 plus postage and packaging. Once it goes on general sale it will be priced at £14 plus postage packaging. We are expecting these back from the pressing plant at the end of September. It’s official released on November 7th. But we will be shipping these beauties out for any of you that order on presale before they hit the shops. |

Following on from the success of our first free download release by Golau Glau in the summer - plays on Radio 1, Radio 6, XFM and a mention in Dazed and Confused, no less - we have two autumn crackers for you this time around: First up are Factory Kids (NET002) with 'Not Enough' B/w 'Analog Dream' - beautiful pop music that defies easy classifaction. There are nods to Flying Saucer Attack, Massive Attack and The Third Eye Foundation – but this band really needs to be heard. This is pop music for the 21st Century. And if that wasn't enough, we have even more enchanting pop music for you in the shape of The Melting Ice Caps - aka laptop-chamber-pop chanteur David Shah. 'Between Eros and Agape B/w 'Nobody's Leaving' (NET003) is pop music to melt your heart and anyone with a fondness for chamber pop will not be disappointed by this wonderful release. Both are available to download now for FREE - from Happy listening. |
