THE LOUNGS

TIP TOP POP FROM START TO STOP."...jubilant,summery...jaunty...jolly-sounding glockenspiel...overall Bonzo Dog Band vibe... animals interspersed between the lyric...like nothing else in the town...bizarre and scary to see."

THE LOUNGS @ MANCHESTER ROADHOUSEThis must be the year of the beard as, yet again, the stage is full of them. We also have a full set of headbands, making The Loungs look like a group of 118 118 ad extras.
But looks can deceive, and no one would have guessed how magical this St.Helens band were going to be - I`d predicted cock-rock metal.
But with four singers harmonising within an inch of their lives and a barnstorming party vibe, they could take the same route as The Earlies.
7/10

NORTHWEST ALTERNATIVE MUSIC.CO.UKIt took me a couple of songs (including a sort of tribute song to Johnny Cash) to even attempt to place The Loungs into any sort of genre that could be associated with NWAM. I'm still having trouble placing them in any kind of genre. Sort of a mix of indie, light-hearted pop and a touch of country. What is common to The Loungs throughout all their songs is their heavy emphasis on a very levelled mix of vocals and guitars. Most bands seem to have one far too low and the other far too high. Clancy's Stomp was pretty much an instrumental song, apart from the odd "yeah yeah yeah" throughout, however it had a very upbeat feel to it. Another song The Loungs performed that I didn't catch the name of had a very country feel to it which just helped to show the diversity of the band. One of the highlights of the set was Waiting For Someone, a very soft acoustic number with some remarkably powerful vocals and lyrics.

HWANGThe Loungs - 6 piece madness, covering a wide variety of musical styles, with a skiffle backbone!

HONEY RECORDS. Reviewed by A+R on 3rd August 2004.
This is like Lou Reed shagging Iggy Pop in a 70s Sci-Fi movie, while David Bowie plays in the background. Experimental, with a nice dischord feel, it stands out a mile from the rest of the dirge we`ve heard today. Track 3 even manages to pull off the sudden-change-in-direction thing without sounding desperate, while track 4 reminds us of War Of The Worlds. Yeah!
It`s all very epic and exciting, and had the whole Honey team grinning with relief that someone out there is`nt afraid to try something new.

Last Hex Audio Assembly Programme, we salute you.

HONEY RATING: 4 bees.

That's what I was thinking! You must be telepathetic!

There is no E and there must be an O.

Johnny Anarchy kinda looks like he could be telepathic, with his little ariels and all.

Let's not worry about the name let's talk about Lou Reed shagging Iggy Pop in a 70's sci-fi movie while David Bowie plays in the background  No, i'm not eating magic mushrooms again that's the review at the top of this post by A+R - How comes Reed gets to do all the shagging? - shouldn't it be Bowie shagging Pop? (the man not the music style) while Reed supplies the music?

P.S - I think Lungs is a good name for a band...

No, if Reed supplied the music it would be an altogether languid affair. With Bowie playing the backing at least Mr.Pop is guaranteed a jolly rogering.

"A unique sound that the world simply must hear more of." - STAR

"No one would have guessed how magical this band were going to be...
with four singers harmonising within an inch of their lives and a barnstorming party vibe, they could take the same route as The Earlies." - TELETEXT

"Don't be fooled though, their sound is by no means silly, nor are their songs throw-away eccentric tunes. They are beautifully crafted mini epics that take you further than any other outfit out there at the moment. With tracks like the immensly catching 'Armageddon Outta Here' , the obvious career starter 'Cats' that has all the energy and song structure to take them far, and the beautifully heartfelt 'Throughout It All', it is hard to argue about these lads getting somewhere, with or without major production. - RETAIL RODEO MAGAZINE

"Tight as a Herrings Arse, right from the beginning, no distortion. Just pure harmony and playful tune, filling the room." - PHANTOM-POWER.COM

"Have a playful onstage spirit and a musical inventiveness that makes them hard to dislike." - MERSEYMUSIC.ORG

"Sound like a kids TV show theme-tune, quite innocent until you hear the lines ‘I won’t miss you when you're dead’ and ‘I’m going to take your girl away from you’." - HONEY RECORDS
