on saturday i went to brighton for the great escape (camden crawl on sea) to see british sea power play their first gig this year.
it was in here



as usual with these things it was oversubscribed so the hardcore turned up early to get in and stay there. whats the problem jim?
well the udderbelly doesnt have toilets inside, they're out in the gardens outside. if you left to have a piss you were deemed to be outside and had to go to the back of the queue. of course this meant that no-one wanted to leave and so everyone pissed up against the back of the venue!
even the bouncers accepted that it was ridiculous but were only doing their job.

all the people i knew there said that this level of forethought characterised the whole of the 3 day festival. if you ever think of going to this thing dont bother. i have written to the organisers demanding my money back not in any hope but because i want to register my anger.
it may seem a little thing but i had spent money on a ticket and a train and had to get back to london after the last train had gone and to be treated like this was the last straw for some people.

bsp were predictably superb even if it did end in bloodshed


maps were quite interesting but i had to endure tiny fucking dancers again

Sounds a right shambles. I like Tiny Dancers. Well I did as each of the early singles came out. When I heard the album a couple of weeks back I realised the novelty was wearing off.

Did you see Beanie there? I think she was completing a long weekend bender so you may have seen her floating in the sea of wee... (she'd do it with dignity, obviously).

The Great Escape was definitely better organised than last year, we found the text messages really helpful, there were more and better venues this year. Last year we were traipsing around in the pouring rain never knowing if we were going to get to a venue and there be a giant queue or not.

The Udderbelly wasn't used much by the Great Escape as it's really there for the Brighton Festival that's on at the moment, it was only used for a handful of gigs. But I totally agree with Jim about the way they organised the staff with regards to getting back in if you needed to go out for a toilet break. They could have been a lot more helpful, but they'll learn from it. Next year will be even more of an improvement I reckon.
