i'm listening to the spinto band right now. pretty sweet but i have to say i'm not exactly blown away by the recorded stuff.

sorry to say that i missed pete and the pirates at the xp night because i'm an idiot and left before they played not realising that there was another band.

of the current crop of london bands that i've seen live more than a couple of times i'd say hexicon, gin panic and chet all put on pretty awesome shows for quite different reasons. it's funny though, when i see a band that i really like i tend to want to meet them and make friends, then after you've become mates people think that you're only plugging them because you know them when really it's the opposite situation... i'm only hanging around with them to try and make myself look better. or something.

I try to avoid meeting bands full stop. I like to keep that distance between performer and critic so that when they let me down I can stick the knife in without fear of guilt...

The Wrens are staggeringly good live. If I could only make one whole hearted recommendation in my life it would be to go and catch them when they come back to London... which I think could be quite soon.

Yeah Wilco are brilliant live, I much prefered them live than on record. Radiohead, somehow, manage to be even more brilliant live than on record... speaking of which, did anyone manage to get tickets for their club dates?
Off to sigur ros at the apollo tomorrow, quite excited, another band that are possibly better live than on record.

I've just realised how many times I said 'better live than on record' in that post. Oh dear. I need some sleep.

Yes indeed Graham and I'm afraid the "Better Live Than On Record" monitors have detected this appalling attempt to sneak through excessive "better live than on record"s on a public message board. Expect a knock on your door very shortly, swiftly followed by a full cavity search performed by a Bernard Bresslaw lookalike in a titfer and wearing a sovereign ring...
