SoundsXP Message Boards - Indie, Indiepop, Nu-Folk and Alt-Country Forums

I used to write for this site back in the day, and every now and again dropped the occassional post in the forum. Happy days.

Before I start, I am fully aware that this thread is a fairly shameless attempt at using you all for my own purposes, but any help you could give me would be great. Paul said I could ask a few questions, so direct your quibbles at him.

I am writing an article called 'Bands, Fans and the Bloggers Between Them' for my journalism diploma at Cardiff University, about the impact of the rise in privately owned band fansites land webzines like soundsxp on print journalism, and I would like to get some views from music fans themselves.

Below are a few questions. If anyone would like to answer some of them, I would be forever grateful.

- How often do you use sites like soundsxp? What is it you can get from them that you can't get from something like nme.com?

- What is it you can get from them that you can't get from a print magazine like the nme or q or similar?

- Have any of you contributed to the content of a fan run website, or perhaps written in and suggested something you would like to see?

- Is the community aspect of a fan run site important? Does anyone use messageboards of any fan site for a particular band?

- What do you expect to see from a fan run site? Is there anything that you would like to see?

Everyday, a refreshing point of view, a more indepth knowledge, a more intelligent musical debate, a greater finger on the musical pulse of the nation.

They are interactive and allow you to discover new bands and whole new lifestyles.

Yes its vital to maintaining interest in the site, the articles and crucial to the development of a fanbase for a new or unsigned band.
