IO ~ Death in Public ~ Pocketknife ~ Lethean Sound
WotGodForGot regulars know where to get their monthly fix of post-rock/alternative and chin strokingly interesting music. At the Retro Bar, Sackville Street, Manchester on the first Wednesday in EVERY calendar month, that’s where!
This April sees the arrival of three new bands to the WGF rosta and a welcome return for another.
IO are one of the best post rock bands around and are fast becoming recognised for what they are – brilliant! Manchester folk will have their first opportunity to see this Birmingham quartet at the Retro Bar at the back end of a French/Belgium tour where they will be promoting the release of their new album Monolith which you can buy from the band or from their website. They also have T Shirts for sale!
When we listen we can hear EITS, Red Sparowes, Grails and Pelican. What more could you possible want!
This is what Sandman Magazine had to say:-
"What came next, however, was so spectacular and powerful it could have soundtracked the moon’s conversion from a glowing, white golf ball into a fearsome, reddish planet. IO’s brand of post-rock manages to meld Explosions in the Sky’s melodic, delicate guitars with Isis’ metal sensibility resulting in an explosive, spine-tingling set which blew the crowd away".

Also playing this night are Death in Public, Pocketknife and Lethean Sound. Here’s what you can expect:
Death In Public
Making their second appearance for WGF this Lancaster three piece produce a remarkably atmospheric, gargantuan sound like Mogwai/EITS/Godspeed only with passionate indie vocals.
"There's hints of My Bloody Valentine in there and almost an air of aloofness amid the pretty snarling melody lines. I like it." - Steve Lamacq - Radio 1
"Death In Public provide sinister, brooding verses punctuated by frightening guitar noise. Some excellent ideas. " - Leeds Music Scene
"Coupling the skyscraping atmospherics of Mogwai with late-80s indie, DIP are proving themselves to be genuine contenders for 2008." - Rock Midgets
"Guitar notes ring out like ghostly anthems separated by incidentally massive walls of noise. A pulsating melee of shaking distortion." - Manchester Music

Pocketknife
This new Manchester three piece quote Biffy Clyro, Queens of The Stone Age, The Melvins and PJ Harvey as their influences. Listen to Sian Harvey’s absolutely fabulous vocals on the band’s myspace website. Stand out tracks are the interestingly titled “Women in Refrigerators” (well someone has to turn the light out) and the curiously titled “Tri Pimp”. Great!
