Vodaphone are using Another Girl, Another Planet to flog their phone services, and now Nike (I think) are using Johnny Cash's version of Hurt to sell us their sweat-shop sportswear (presumably, the ad's message is: wear Nike for a lifetime of pain and failure). Have a bit of respect, you fuckers!
And when they're not doing that, they co-opting some bitter-sweet little accoustic ditty to make their greedy, faceless little corporations seem all warm and fuzzy. (That habit has reached epidemic proportions recently.)
