Most jocks simply do not have that luxury - they're hired not because of their passion for music but because they can chat inanely between songs chosen by company executives. Of course, they have to pretend to like the stuff they're playing because a radio station's reputation depends on its ability to influence the music-buying public. Hence the key competencies for the vast majority of DJs are: a) being a charlatan and b) liking (nay, adoring) the sound of his/her own voice.
