i decided to spend a bit of time listening to music rather than musicians over the past 6 weeks, so i bought some albums and here are my thoughts if anyone is interested...
arcade fire - i think i spent too much time worrying which envelopes or clap your hands say yeah was my album of the year and completely missed this. did they play in london last year? is ther anything else to listen to other than the album?
the new strokes album - the last album completely passed me by (is it any good?) but this is a breath of fresh air. reminds me of something a swedish band would come out with, not an american band. agree with paul m review that this could be album of the year
wolf parade - every time i saw a review of this band i thought it was wolfgang press for some reason. they thank arcade fire in the sleevenotes but are far more challenging. naked pop songs.
editors - i went for a pint with the singer of bloc party before christmas and he said that he thought editors had ripped them off. so i got their album. maybe they've ripped off the sound, but other than the singles i'd say they sound pretty early '90's. a mixture of curve and rem. only listened to it a couple of times though. do bloc party sound like that?
i got my brother the nirvana box set for christmas, 3 cds and a dvd. its in a black box, got it off ebay for 25 quid inc p&p. without doubt the best stuff ive heard in the past year but its not counted. fascinating stuff
louisthefourteenth or louis xiv or something. don't know anything about them but i think they're american and it's pure entertainment and nothing new but strangely attractive.
queens of the stone age new album. listened to it in the car up to stoke on christmas eve. we were in a traffic jam. they sounded a little like smashing pumpkins and it was nice.
breeders last splash - time to get this out again. if the long blondes wrote divine hammer they'd be top 40. she took heroine you know...
moon safari by air - got this in the hmv sale, which is the fourth time i've bought it (stolen, lost etc) but i swear to god other than when it came out i've never paid more than 4.99 for it. how come stuff is always in the sale? anyway, i hereby throw down the gauntlet and say i've bought an album 4 times. can anyone beat that?
we yes you no - lets go to see this bandStatistics: Posted by stalin — Tue Jan 10, 2006 12:00 am
