However, Crouch's replacement is by no means obvious.
Defoe? What exactly has he done this season? Plus, he's another short-arse and it makes it too easy for opposition defences when you have no credible threat in the air (and it's doubly stupid when, in Beckham, you have probably the best crosser in the world right now - but that's not much of a factor if he continues to be lacklustre in the center).
Heskey? Hasn't played for England since the Euro 2004 game against France when he came on as a late sub, dutifully tracked back and conceded a needless foul against Zidane on the edge of our area. We all remember how that one turned out.
Bent? Probably the least absurd option. He's having a decent season but who can really say with hand on heart that he's a world class striker?
Final point. Results aside, one of the most depressing aspects of watching England over the last three years is how BORING we've become. Watching England matches has become a genuinely unpleasant chore. Can anyone remind me of a single attacking substitution by Sven? (I'll give you a hint: bringing on Phil Fucking Neville doesn't count.)Statistics: Posted by Captain Howdy — Sun Oct 09, 2005 10:00 pm
