deXter Bentley (on stage at approx. 8:30pm) Loosely described as ‘end of the pier psychedelic folk’, South London’s deXter Bentley plough their own particular furrow of un-hip pop. Wearing their Englishness proudly on their sleeves, dB manage to combine their idiosyncratic kitchen sink dramas with a no-fi soundtrack that never draws the same comparison twice.
The Irrepressibles (on stage at approx. 9:15pm) A London based, neo-orchestral, experimental Art-Rock ensemble. With a combination of vocal abandonment and soaring orchestral arrangements The Irrepressibles manage to create an altogether impeccable, innovative and inspiring sound.
Richard Thomas (on stage at approx. 10:15pm) (the host of the ‘Banality’ show on Resonance FM) will be ‘treading the boards’ with his very own brand of absurdist/musical/theatre.
The Hellset Orchestra (on stage at approx. 10:45pm) An 8-piece group who hail from Nottingham. Comprising of - vocals, organ, bass, drums, cello, violins, saxophone and a laptop. The Hellset Orchestra say of themselves, ‘we provide the soundtrack to a silent theatrical discotheque'. Their kindred spirits apparently include the likes of: Queen, Meat Loaf, Boney M, ELO, King Crimson and Sparks (to name but six!).
Reading based 5 piece Hot silk Pockets (on stage at approx. midnight) are a ‘euphoric, frenetic, ramshackle, carcrash popnoise’ of a band who are guaranteed to get you strutting your Punky stuff... so best make sure you bring your dancing shoes!
Bilkis (on stage at approx. 1:00am) Sophie Pathan (guitar/vocals) and Stacey De-Looze (vocals) will be calming things down a wee bit with their melodic indie-folk songs. If you are a fan of harmonies then you will most definitely be a fan of Bilkis.Statistics: Posted by themilkman — Fri Apr 01, 2005 4:32 pm
