My brother briefly ran the Associates Fan Club while they were on Circa in the early 90s. Not only did he get a load of lovely signed artwork, rare promos and a name check on the back of a single he got to interview the fella in a London hotel. He said he was really sweet and shy.
About a year or so after his death we went to a tribute night at the Paradise Club in New Cross which was called in honour of the lovely little fella and featured very rare tracks being aired and constant video footage in the background of long lost TV and live performances. Unfortunately the venue was, aptly enough, a gay bar, and the regulars obviously didn't give two hoots for Billy so you could hardly hear the music for the "Ooo get her!" and "Saucer of milk for tabel 3!" yelps from most of the attendees. We made our excuses and left.
