This is discordant and demonic, reminiscent of the Birthday Party and evoking images from their ‘Sonny’s Burning’ video where the people at the fire-strewn carny look like tortured souls being forked in the arse by Old Scratch. ‘Baghdad Boogie’ is a weird rockabilly gothic opera full of stop-start rhythms and unearthly screams that are probably used by the US Army to induce severe disorientation and mild nausea. ‘R Mutt’ on the b-side is weirder still, a Fall-esque song with spoken word inserts like the singer is channelling spirits. Not, to be honest, my bag any more but perfect if you’re into Peel-favoured noiseniks like Terrashima, Melt Banana and the Boredoms.
