London’s Bloc Party have been on a number of people’s lists of top tips for 2004 and this, their second single will do their cause no harm. It has a very fashionable post punk feel, with its chopped guitars and Robert Smith style yelped vocals and a tune that falls somewhere between Iggy Pop’s the Passenger and the Police’s Can’t Stand Losing You. It’s poppy, catchy and very simple, grabbing you on first listen and still throttling you countless plays later. The b-side Staying Fat is Hot Hot Heat and Franz Ferdinand kissing in a tree; not quite the knee trembler that is Banquet but better than a night in with the grandparents.
