Pennsylvanian Brian Christianzio’s last UK tour was as support to the Boy Least Likely To and anyone familiar with the latter’s chirpy brand of pop will know what to expect here. Upbeat plinky plonky pianos are the order of the day with the syrup sweet melodies accompanied by soaring harmonies. The Californian surfer boys are certainly major influences here though equally there’s enough cheesy moments to implicate the fromage humming digits of Ben Folds Five and the 60s king of camembert, Burt Bacharach. The desire to experiment sometimes gets the better of the band and certainly the dips into easy listening territory are at times maybe too gooey for comfort but at their shiniest such as on the jaunty rompalong of Scare Me Sweetly and the wah-wahing quirky twists of Suffer for Two it’s a cheery delight.
