The album’s title should be a challenge to the nation’s vacuous self-promoting cloth eared disc jockeys; carry on regurgitating what you’ve just read in The Sun between spinning the predictable chart fodder from the big labels or let the airwaves drip with the kind of marvellous dark pop contained on this wonderfully eclectic record. Of course it won’t happen. Why dip into this splendid vat of melancholic mash when the listener will put up with Freddy Starr Ate My Hamster yarns and Mika and Lily Allen on permanent rotation? The fact that they might actually enjoy this bag of 80s obsessed gloom pop with its brooding basslines peppered occasionally with horns and Eastern flourishes will undoubtedly go untested. Hang the DJ indeed.
