Despite their knack of producing three minute pop nuggets, Merseyside’s Ooberman were relative commercial flatliners before they split three years ago when relationship difficulties within the band made it too stressful to continue. Fortunately these seem to have now been patched up and this wonderful sunkissed peach is the outcome. Borrowing the hook from Manfred Mann’s Pretty Flamingo but coupling it with Sophia’s charming vocals it’s a sizzling slice of sweet pop pie and would be a huge summer hit if a) they were not so criminally overlooked in Britain and b) limiting the bugger to a mere 750 copies on 7” worldwide. For those lucky enough to track it down there’s further joy to be found on the B-side with Dan’s vocoderised stomper Spirit of Adventure, a disco floor filler for the more discerning Peter Crouch-esq roboteer.
