Luxembourg We Only Stayed Together For The Kids

Love may or may not really make the world go round but it certainly makes the record industry turn over rather rapidly. Over the years, great music has captured every possible moment of love, from falling at first sight to the heartbreak of seeing someone run off with a moron called Gordon. Well, almost every moment maybe, as I don’t recall too many songs about remaining in a passionless relationship for the children’s sake.

We Only Stayed Together For The Kids is by no means as joyless as it sounds however, thanks mainly to the fact that it’s a rollicking good tune. Insistently pulsating drums underpin some sparky guitar and keyboards on a track that’s tighter than Group E of the World Cup, and you can’t help but smile at David Shah’s gallows humour in a line like “Turned Sandra down for you, and now I hear that you did too”. Like their country namesake, Luxembourg are never likely to dominate the world stage but they’re small and perfectly formed all the same.
