The Bridge Gang
Pangs of Guilt
Brille Records (7” Ltd to 500)

The Bridge Gang are no strangers to SoundsXP, what with being SXP’s fave live band of 2005 and having played two SXP gigs, so you may be forgiven for believing that there might be some bias here…
Well pooh sticks to that ‘cos what The Bridge Gang have – as well as their cool demeanour etc – is that one essential ingredient: killer tunes. Pangs of Guilt is just one of them. If you have heard or downloaded this track before you need to know that this is a redone Brille version: new and improved, with handclaps and backing vocals that give it a poppier edge, it is a mighty three chord slab of punkpop that soars and seethes and is over far too soon. Er, Brill-iant, in fact.
Flip side Neutrino is frenetic - with a simple, ascending/descending guitar riff, crashing rhythm, Jose’s screeching vocal - it is a sharp sliver of grungesque punk. In fact this sounds like Bleach-era Nirvana at its best. Again, it’s over far too quickly and leaves me with a head buzzing and a need to play it all over again.
The only downside is that the single is limited to 500 copies, so you will need to grab a copy pronto. You’ll regret it if you don’t.
